Virginia Mae (Ginther) Long, 92, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2015 surrounded by her family at Hospice of NW Ohio. Virginia (Gin) was born on August 26, 1923 to Mercedes (Cousino) and George Ginther in Erie, MI. She was raised in Erie along with her five siblings Mary, George, Jr., James, Eugene and Carolyn. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1941 and married Raymond Long on May 3, 1947 at St. Joseph Church in Erie, MI.
Gin and Ray were blessed with their first son, Michael, soon followed with the birth of their second son, Denny. The Long’s moved to Toledo, OH in 1961 and extended their family with the birth of their third son, Phillip. Virginia spent the majority of her work career with Foodtown Supermarkets until she retired. Virginia’s pride and joy was her family. She was blessed with six grandchildren Tracy (Long) Romer of Toledo, OH, Jamie (Jennifer) Long of Indianapolis, IN, Kelly Long of Atlanta, GA, Courtney Long of Phoenix, AZ, Sydney Long of Pompano Beach, FL and Haley Long of Cincinnati, OH along with two great grandchildren, Tabitha Romer and Ray Long.
A caring and nurturing soul, Virginia would charm you with her wit, her spunk, and her sweet heart. When you were with her, she made you feel like you were the most important person in the world to her. She truly understood what is important in life. She was always encouraging, supportive and compassionate. Gin enjoyed bowling, golfing and watching her beloved Detroit Tigers.
Virginia is survived by her children Michael (Pat) Long of Angola, IN, Denny (Penny) Long of Estero, FL and Phillip Long of Toledo, OH; sister Carolyn Martin and brother Jim (Ruth) Ginther. She was preceded in death by husband, Raymond Long; parents, Mercedes and George Ginther; sister Mary Raney and brothers; George, Jr. Ginther and Eugene Ginther.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperence, MI. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish, 2240 Castlewood Drive, Toledo, Ohio at 2 p.m. Interment will be private, on Saturday, at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Hospice of NW Ohio, Elizabeth Scott Nursing Home and Cameron Woods Senior Living Facility in Angola, IN for the loving care they provided. The family asks that in lieu of flowers any memorials be sent to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Cameron Home Health Care and Hospice.
