Robert “Bob” S. McGaffey, Jr., 84, of Erie, MI, died Thursday, January 2, 2014 in the Toledo Hospital. Born, December 11, 1929, in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Robert S. and Helen (Nowak) McGaffey, Sr. He was a 1948 graduate of Scott High School. Bob was a US Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War on the USS Columbus – CA74. He married Sandra Ann Dusseau on Oct. 1, 1955 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, MI. Bob was a quality control engineer for Champion Spark Plug for 34 years, retiring in 1989. He then along with his son, Michael started McGaff’s Auto Sales in Toledo, and was later joined by his other son, Bobby. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, where he was an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, 7413, Erie, Damascus/Collingwood Lodge, 643, F.&A.M., Ft. Meigs, Chapter 29, R.A.M., Toledo Council, 33, R.&S.M., Toledo Commandery #7, K.T., Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, Toledo Jesters, and Zenobia Shrine, where he was past president of the Air Patrol. Bob enjoyed reading, golfing, gardening, and debating politics.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sandra. Son, Michael (Dawn) McGaffey. Sister, Kathy Brazelton, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his son, Robert “Bobby” McGaffey, III, Brother, Earle McGaffey and sister-in-law, Phyllis McGaffey.
Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 10, 2014, at 12:00 Noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2214 Manhattan Blvd. Erie, MI, where he will lie in state after 11:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Erie, MI. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Educational Fund or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
