Mary Alice Pompos, 78 of Temperance, MI, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Born January 5, 1937, in Bedford Township, MI, she was the daughter of Curtis G. and Irene L. (Briskey) LaVoy. She obtained a Bachelor of Education from the former Mary Manse College in Toledo and studied at the University of Toledo to obtain a special educational certification. Mary married E. Stephen “Cookie” Pompos on June 4, 1988. She was employed by Lucas County Educational Service Center for 17 years and was a recipient of the Fortunato Teacher of the Year Award in 1991. She retired in 1997. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and dining-out. She was a Eucharistic Minister and active member of the Regina Coeli Catholic Church.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Steve. Children, Craig (Lazette) Nowicki, Mark (Kris) Nowicki, Dale (Lorraine) Nowicki, Keith Nowicki, Teresa Nowicki, Kurt (Jeanne) Nowicki, Becky Dazell, James Pompos, William Pompos, Bonnie (Ron) Grzegorewski, and Brian Pompos. Sisters, Joan Cousino, Marcia Tietjen, Donna (Bill) McDonagh, Janice Droz, 17 Grandchildern and 2 great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Mark LaVoy.
Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Friday, March 20, 2015, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, a Rosary will be prayed Friday at 6PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 10:00 am in Regina Coeli Catholic Church, where she will lie in state after 9:00 am. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Resurrection Cemetery, Temperance, MI. Memorials may be made to Regina Coeli Scholarship Fund. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
