M. Jane Spice, 82, of Temperance, MI, died Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg Twp., OH.  Born  January 14, 1932,  she was the daughter of Paul and Florence (Nicholson) Tanner.  Jane  attended University High School in Ann Arbor, MI, and then graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1950.  Jane received her Bachelor’s of Education from the University of Toledo. She was married to Burt Spice for 57 years, and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2010.  Jane taught for the Toledo Public Schools, including Scott High School, Robinson Junior High School  and DeVeaux Junior High School for over 35 years.  She was the business manager for Y.M.C.A., Camp Storer, for 7 summers during the 1960’s.

Burt and Jane held a great love for the outdoors and their belief in our responsibility to care for God’s great Earth gave them a desire to develop and enhance nature.  As a result they spent much time, talent and hard work to develop their own land. They were always grateful to all those that helped.  There were many!  Thank you.

Cindi (Norris) Farnell of Temperance, MI, Brad Spice of Temperance, MI, Mindy (John) Wood of Farwell, MI, Jerry Spice of Dearborn, MI, Lee Spice of Temperance, MI and Sara (Robert) Vance of Saline, MI and Geoff Dickerson a special member of our family. Grandchildren, Nathan (Danielle) Farnell, Amanda (Steven) Chenault, Vanessa (David) Stupay, Caleb Farnell; Marcus, Melissa, Michael (Jinayra), Manny (Naomi), and Marilyn Smith; Olivia and Elizabeth Vance.  She also has 8 great grandchildren.  Jane was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joan Steele, brother, Conrad Tanner and Infant brother, George Tanner.

Visitation will be from 2-9 pm Tuesday, February 11, 2014,  at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI (734) 850-5000.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at 11:00 am at Compelled Church, 8970 Jackman Rd. (at Temperance Rd.) Temperance, MI, where she will lie in state after 10:00 am.  Rev. Dr. Robert Wisehart and Pastor Nate Elarton, officiating,  Interment will follow at Erie Union Cemetery.  www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
