Higgins, Lucille ‘Lucy’ S. Higgins, 91 of Temperance, MI, and formerly of Toledo, OH, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in The Toledo Hospital. Born March 20, 1922 at the family homestead in Napoleon Twp., OH, she was the daughter of Henry and Louise (Wiebeck) Wiechers. She married Ralph Higgins on September 14, 1946. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2000. Lucy attended Veigel Elementary (a one room school house) and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1940. She then graduated from International College in Fort Wayne, IN. Lucy was first employed by Ft. Wayne Engineering and Manufacturing as a secretary and accountant. She was then employed by the former Electric Autolite till 1949. Then she was employed as a secretary for the Toledo Public Schools from 1961-1982. Long before social media, Lucy embraced networking. Her faith in her God and her love of family and community were the foundation of her life.
Lucy is survived by her loving children, Patricia A. Higgins, James (Kathleen) Higgins and Steven (Cynthia) Higgins. Grandchildren, Geoffrey (Michelle Russo) Galster, Joshua (Gretchen Fowles) Galster, Jamie Higgins, Jared Higgins, Brittney (Michael) Tormoehlen, Jacob (Heather Tobin) Higgins, Heather (Jon ) Barton, and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 am at Augsburg Lutheran Church, 1342 West Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH 43612, where she will lie in state after 10:00 am.
