Leonard L. LaPointe, 98 of Temperance, MI, died Friday, November 28, 2014, in Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania, OH. Born August 3, 1916, in Erie, MI, he was the son of Alvin N. and Bernease C. (Velliquette) LaPointe. Leonard was educated at St. Joseph School in Erie, MI and the Hall of Divine Child in Monroe, MI. He married Angela Cousino on November 18, 1944, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, MI. Leonard was a life-long self-employed farmer. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, MI, where he had served as altar boy, usher and stewardship commission and was a member of St Joseph Erie K of C Council # 7413. Leonard served on the Board of Review for Erie Township and Drain Commission Advisor for Monroe County. He enjoyed farming, playing cards, reading, and visiting his children, grandchildren and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Angela. Children, Sandra (Dan) Schutte, Linda (Jim) Krol, Leon (Michele) LaPointe and Larry (Candace) LaPointe, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Leonard was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Dan and Gerald LaPointe and 5 sisters, Alvintine LaPointe, Loretta LaPointe, Sr. Loretta Mary LaPointe, Marcelina Sorensen, Rose Marie Harwick and grandson, Matthew LaPointe.
Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Sunday, November 30, 2014, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where the Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 1, 2014, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2214 Manhattan Street, Erie, MI, where he will lie in state after 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Educational Fund or Promedica Hospice. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
