John R.  Scherer, 89, of Toledo, Ohio, died Wednesday,  December 2, 2015, in Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania, OH.  Born January 29, 1926, in Washington Twp., Ohio, he was the son of William L. and Gladys L. (Montague) Scherer.  A WWII Marine Corp veteran, he married Barbara K. Malohn on February 21, 1987.  John was a partner with Ronfeldt Pattern Works for 43 years, retiring in 1988.  He was an active member of Northwest Baptist Church and loved ministering at local nursing homes. John loved inventing and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; children, John (Sandy) Scherer and Susan K. (Michael) Balk; grandchildren, Daniel, Ian, Preston, Christopher, Clayton and Catherine; great grandchildren, Daisy Mae, Dayla Mae and Ian. John was preceded in death by 3 brothers, William, Oray and Thomas Scherer and sister, Monica “Ruth” Monroe.

Visitation will be from 3-8 pm, Sunday, December 6, 2015, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, Michigan. Funeral services will be Monday, December 7, 2015, at 11:00 am at Northwest Baptist, 3906 W. Alexis Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623, where he will lie in state after 10:00 am.  Pastor Andrew Edwards, III, officiating. Entombment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to Israel Gentile Ministry for Hebrew Bibles, c/o Northwest Baptist Church. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
