Jeanne Rita Denko lost her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living. She was born to Leroy and Lucy (Cousino) LaPointe on November 29, 1928. Jeanne lived all of her life in Erie, Michigan, enriching the lives of all those she encountered.
Jeanne was a lifetime member of Saint Joseph Church, and a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 3925 in Erie. Most important to her were her family, friends and helping those who needed her. She loved to golf, and cook and bake for others. Her strong Catholic faith gave her comfort in all of life’s challenges. Jeanne spent much of her working years at the U.S. Post Office in Erie. It was there she met the love of her life, Mike Denko, to whom she was married for almost 59 years. He preceded her in death in 2012.
She is survived by her loving children; Julie (Jim) Petrie, Jill (Friend, Kevin Thomas) Denko, Mike (Karen) Denko, and Jane (Bud) Blanke; grandchildren, Ben Hauck, Mallory and Samantha Blanke, Michael and Matthew Denko. Jeanne was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Dusseau and Kiki Dusseau and her parents Lucy and Leroy LaPointe. Though Jeanne drifted away from us for a bit, we are comforted to know that she is smiling and happy once again. We love and miss you, our beautiful Mother, Mimi, Sister and Friend. You’ll live on in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be from 3-8 pm Monday, October 5, 2015, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, Erie will hold services Monday at 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 11:00 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2214 Manhattan Street, Erie, MI, where she will lie in state after 10:00 am. Fr.
