Howard J. Hofbauer, 77 of Temperance, MI, died Sunday, September 28, 2014, in The Toledo Hospital. Born November 13, 1936 in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Howard and Mary (Lingvai) Hofbauer, Sr. Howard was a 1955 graduate of Bedford High School, where he lettered 3 years playing football and then served his country in the US Air Force. He married Maria C. Crespo on June 20, 1960 in Zaragoza, Spain. He was employed by DuPont in Toledo, OH for 29 years, retiring in 1993. Howard dedicated 40 years of community service with Boy Scouts, coaching basketball and his greatest passion was 3-B Baseball. He was also a devoted fan of Notre Dame Football. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, MI.
Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Maria, Children; Joe (Anita) Hofbauer, Ana (Dave) Meyers, Jim Hofbauer, John (Melody) Hofbauer and Jeff Hofbauer. Also surviving are his sister, Mary (Melvin) Knaggs, 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 2-8 pm on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd (at Jackman) Temperance, MI and the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 2, 2014, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 8330 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, where he will lie in state after 10:00 am.
