Gilbert L. LaPointe, 89 of Erie, MI, died Saturday, October 11, 2014, in Mercy Memorial Hospital.  Born January 28, 1925, in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Clifford and Rose ( Deszell ) LaPointe.  A US Navy veteran of WWII, he was the widower of Gwendolyn Uckele and Mary Stundon. Gilbert was employed by Conrail Railroad for 36 years as a conductor, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, V.F.W., Post 3925, both in Erie, MI.  Gilbert was an avid Detroit Tigers and Michigan State Spartan Fan.  He loved gardening and camping.
He is survived by his loving children,  Renee Cousino, Bryan (Mary) LaPointe, Andrea (Chris) Beach LaPointe, LuAnn (Daniel) Bogart, Bridget (Daniel) Winkelspecht, Melissa Adkins, Tonya Lammers, Steven LaPointe and brother, Paul (Mercedes) LaPointe. 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  Gilbert was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sonya Bovee, 2 sons, Peter and Paul LaPointe, 2 brothers, Ralph and James LaPointe and 2 sisters, Lorna Behan and Helen Galvin.
Visitation will be from 3-9 pm Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 16, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 8330 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, where he will lie in state after 10:00 am.  Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Erie, MI.  Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or American Red Cross. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
