Erik G. Mortensen, 80 of Temperance, MI, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, in Medina Regional Hospital, Hondo, TX. Born December 18, 1934, in Omaha, NE, he was the son of Carl and Elsie M. (Holman) Mortensen. A US Navy veteran of the Korean war, he married Marilyn M. Monroe on June 4, 1961. He received his Bachelors of Arts in education from Peru State Teacher’s College in Peru, Nebraska. Erik was employed by Mason Consolidated Schools in Erie, MI for 23 years, retiring in 1986. There he taught wood shop, auto mechanics, math and industrial arts. After retirement he was a self employed builder for 15 years. He was an avid gardener and landscaper, and also enjoyed camping, car and tractor shows, flea markets, motorcycles, traveling and wintering in Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 54 years, Marilyn; children, Teresa M. (George) Brandon, Kyle W. Mortensen; grandchildren, Bond and Emory Brandon and a extended family of Terry Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl L. Mortensen; sister, Betty A. Allensworth and infant brother, Alexander Mortensen.
A gathering will be held from 4-8 pm, Friday, July 10, 2015, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
