Donald “Don” F. Coon, 95 of Temperance, MI, passed away, Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, OH. Born April 8, 1920, in Lima, OH, he was the son of Howard and Bonnie (Fisher) Coon. Don spent his younger years in Point Place, attending Edgewater Grade School and Point Place High School. He was a long time resident of Temperance since 1946. He married Violette Mae Suzor on January 1, 1940. She preceded him in death on November 1, 1998. Don was in the US Navy during WWII, serving in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged on January 15, 1946. He was employed by the Dana Corporation (Spicer Division) as a machine repairman for 23 years, retiring in 1982. Don was an avid bow and rifle hunter, Detroit Tigers and Lions Fan and was also a short track stock car owner and fan, especially when his favorite driver (grandson, Brian) was on the track.
He is survived by his loving children, Diane Franks and Timothy (Donna) Coon; sister, Eldora Kawczynski; grandchildren, Brian Norton, Julie Norton, and Douglas (Karen) Coon; great grandchildren, Shannon, Jessica, Tyler, Cody, Madison, Hunter, Devyn and Donovan; great great grandchildren, Destiny, Haley, Daniel, Nevaeh, and Chase. Don was also preceded in death by a son, Tommy Coon, brothers, Carl and Howard Coon, Jr.; sisters, Bertha Wheeler and Virginia Gregory; daughter-in-law, Donna Coon, son-in-law, Bill Franks and grandson, Gregory Coon.
Visitation will be from 1-2:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where a memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
