Betty “Jean” Curtis, 81, of Temperance, MI, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living, Lambertville, MI.  Born February 7, 1934, in Hudsonville, Michigan, she was the daughter of Roy and Hattie (Nies) Lahuis.  She married Alvin Curtis on April 6, 1956. He preceded her in death on September 20, 2010.  Jean was a registered nurse, retiring from her nursing career in the early 1990s.  Her love of God was first and foremost in her life and she was  a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, nature, family and helping others wherever she encountered need. Jean was an active member of Bridgepoint Church (formerly First Baptist Church of Temperance), where she served in numerous church ministries. She was also an enthusiast of education for herself and others.

She is survived by her loving children, Jeffrey Curtis, Karen (Steve) Thomas, Sandra (Edward “Randy” ) Nolan, and Barbara (Troy) Wisehart; brother, Fred (Mary) Lahuis; sisters, Lois Schut and Ruth VanOss, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Sikkema.

A gathering will be from 4-7 pm Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where a memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm.  Reverend Craig Killinen, officiating.
